Description

Do you want to work on a New Class of Drones? Our product universe spans three different platforms with maximum take-off weights of up to 1000 kg characteristic dimension of 8 m: the hexacopter Grille for medical evacuation, the multi-role rotorcraft Wespe for logistics and support operations, as well as the fixed-wing drone Bussard for surveillance and intelligence missions. All systems are powered by RasCore, our highly redundant, military-grade avionics system for safe operations within EASA’s Specific Category. Three aircraft, one mission: to bridge the gap between small UAVs and traditional manned systems.

As Chief Engineer at Avilus, you carry overall technical responsibility for our unmanned aerial vehicles in a new class of drones. You ensure that all engineering disciplines - from structures and propulsion to avionics, autonomy, and ground systems — align towards a safe, certifiable, and high-performance product. You will define and manage the technical baseline, guide architecture and design decisions, and make sure that safety, reliability, and certification requirements are consistently met. In close collaboration with program management and engineering leads, you balance performance, cost, schedule, and risk, while representing the technical authority of the program.

Tasks

  • Overall technical responsibility for the aircraft program
  • Definition and management of system- and aircraft-level requirements and certification objectives
  • Oversight of design activities, design reviews, safety assessments, and technical milestones
  • Decision-making on system-level trade-offs across disciplines
  • Coordination between engineering teams, flight test teams, program management, and certification authorities

  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams and act as technical authority
  • Tools (mandatory): Microsoft Office, requirements management tools (e.g., Polarion), Git/Gitlab, Matlab/Simulink
  • Tools (optional): SysML/UML, configuration management systems
  • Required for employment: Security clearance (Ü2-Sabotageschutz) approval(note: relationships in countries according to § 13 para. 1 no. 17 SÜG may result in a negative assessment)
