AVILUS joins EDA-funded Program RASCAP

May 28, 2026

May 2026 — Avilus has been selected as part of the European Defence Agency (EDA)-funded RASCAP consortium, bringing together leading European defence, medical, and research organisations to advance Robotic and Autonomous Systems (RAS) for rescue and medical support operations.

The initiative brings together European industry partners, research institutions, and technology providers to evaluate how autonomous systems can improve operational effectiveness while reducing the time between injury and treatment. The project will focus on three major capability areas: field suitability, aeromedical suitability, and swarm suitability, supporting the broader development of autonomous medical and logistical operations in Europe.

As part of the consortium, Avilus will lead flight testing activities with the unmanned aircraft Grille, providing insights and assessing the aircraft’s suitability for transporting critical patients in medical evacuation scenarios.

To assess the effectiveness, the project will evaluate:

Resilience and Flexibility to ensure reliability across varying weather conditions and challenging environments. Medical Adequacy to assess the impact of robotic autonomous evacuation systems on patient safety and treatment continuity. Low-Complexity Operations to minimize staffing requirements while maintaining operational efficiency and mission effectiveness.

RASCAP consortium members include Avilus, Axnes AS, Epiguard AS, Nordiq Products AS, the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), KNDS, the Technical University of Munich – Institute of Flight System Dynamics (TUM-FSD), the Technical University of Munich – Klinikum Rechts der Isar (TUM-MED), and Watchbird AS.

We are honoured to be part of a pioneering consortium that will help establish future operating concepts and requirements for next-generation RAS capability modules supporting military and dual-use missions.
